Daily care and consumables on a hired machine

Almost every mid-hire breakdown we attend traces back to one of four things left undone at the end of a shift. None of them takes more than five minutes.

Two combination machines with overhead guards parked in a warehouse
Machines handed back clean and serviced go straight back out to the next site.

The end-of-shift routine

Empty the hopper or recovery tank. Debris left overnight compacts, and dirty solution left in a tank goes anaerobic and destroys both the smell and the hoses. Rinse the recovery tank and leave the lid open to dry.

Pulse or shake the filter, and knock out the pre-filter if the machine has one. On fine dust this is the difference between full pick-up tomorrow and a service call.

Lift the squeegee and wipe the blade. A squeegee left loaded and under pressure takes a set and stops sealing, which shows up as streaking that looks like a machine fault.

Put it on charge, on a flat surface, with the charger fully seated. Partial charges on lead-acid batteries shorten pack life quickly.

What counts as a consumable

Brushes, pads, filters, squeegee blades, hopper seals and similar wearing parts are consumables. They are part of our hire agreements — if they wear out during your hire, we replace them. That is deliberate: a machine running on worn consumables produces a worse result and gets blamed for it.

Batteries, motors, pumps, controllers and structural components are ours to maintain. If any of them fail during a hire, get in touch and we will replace the machine as soon as possible.

What counts as damage

Fair wear and tear is expected and covered by us. Damage through lack of care is not: if the machine is damaged through lack of care you will be required to replace the damaged parts and pay for any additional expenses.

In practice the damage we see is impact — racking legs, kerbs, bollards, dock edges and loading ramps taken at an angle. A short walk-around briefing with your operators at delivery prevents nearly all of it.

If something goes wrong

Call us. If the machine happens to break down for any reason, simply get in touch and we will happily replace the machine as soon as possible. We would much rather swap a machine early than have you fight one for a week and conclude that machine hire does not work.
